The truth about colour YouTube CMYK
When we are talking about paint we are talking about subtractive colour not additive colour
Additive colour RGB Are the colours of light which are red green and blue
Subtractive colour are the colours of paint and ink
A primary colour is a colour that cannot be mixed.
CYMK these are the new primary colours !!
CYAN. Yellow MAGENTA and black
When all these three colours are mixed as in overlapping we get black
Scott‘s new colour wheel is important for mixing bright secondaries with the correct primaries
The magenta options are permanent magenta Quinacridone red rose lake permanent rose. and alizarin crimson
Cyan options are transparent cyan / cerulein blue or manganese blue
Painting skies
Vary your edges
Use chromatic Greys not Black + white
Atmospheric Perspective in the sky
Overuse of white paint
Ball and chain effect from using photos
Use a big big brush
Scott’s Primary colours
Cyan. Magenta. Yellow
The importance of a vivid colour study - 3 methods
1 Use of a simple orange base coat - an even coat of orange and yellow which will show through in some of the painting
The More transparent oil paint over that base and the gaps left as we paint over the base will make for vivid unified colour
2 Limit your choice of paints Magenta Yellow and cyan
If you use cobalt blue in the sky - use at least some cobalt blue in the mix for the sea - to achieve unity
If you are using a cadmium Orange then use also to desaturate your blues
3 Glazing Translucent semi transparent layer over the paint
= an optical mix. If you glaze Yellow over cyan you will see that as a green. Glazing unifies.
Painting undercoat in acrylic allows oils to go over smoothly
This he painted in very bright warm yellows oranges and reds
